Foraging and Gathering

Foraging and Gathering

September is upon us and brings a cooler breeze with an instinctive need to curl up under a blanket. The skies are bright with stars and the hedgerows and fields are full of foraging fodder.

In Moon on the Hill, we have a long history of gathering sloes, mushrooms, harvesting plums and apples to make chutneys and jams. Jars and baskets are exchanged with new recipes and an unspoken understanding that we love the countryside around Cumbria and respect its offerings.

We're ready to welcome Autumn and to offer a warm and cosy welcome to all our curious visitors to Moon on the Hill where you will find some beautiful new products from designers old and new. Perhaps mushrooms are your thing? Fungi seem to fascinate us all especially the mycelium network (yes, we're fans of Star Trek Discovery!) Take a peek at these mushroom garlands from East End Press. Maybe a teatowel from Leeds based designer, Maggie Magoo or a Fly Agaric card from local designer, Jade, from goodpostday.com

Pumpkin Soup? We're all thinking about cooking soups for our hibernation and these colourful pumpkins and squashes on this East End Press garland are deliciously inspiring! We continue to stock a vast array of cards and prints - hedgehogs, badgers and moths are among our best sellers.

With the clocks going back at the end of October, you may be considering lighting a candle when you're contemplating mushrooms and the Mycelium universe. We continue to stock scented soy based candles from Embers and Roots, British Colour Standard and Maegan. Embrace the changing seasons, rest your bones, it's natural to rest and relax when you can.  As Keats wrote, it's a "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness." Time to slow down, wrap up, meander into town and take your time browsing and chatting to Grace and Julie in Moon on the Hill. We hope to see you soon!
