Our Story
Moon on the Hill is an independent contemporary gift shop in Penrith Cumbria, on the northern edge of the Lake District. Stocking work by British designers and makers sourced locally and beyond. Founded in 2019 by Grace Rigby she now runs the small shop with an equally small team who are hugely passionate about art and design.
Originally wanting a space where Grace could produce and sell her own products. Moon on the Hill had to quickly adapt through the covid crisis and eventually blossomed into something much more after approaching a few local makers and artist to stock their products.
Working closely with local independent makers and other British talented designers and crafts people from further afield, the shop is now able to bring together a nicely curated collection of design led quality gifts and home wares - with the emphasis on functionality and being original as well as sustainable. This includes a nice range of cards, prints, jewellery and textiles.
'Moon on the Hill' is a reference to Great Dun Fell, which Grace once heard it described as. Great Dun Fell is home to a radar station locally known as the Golf Ball and can be seen for forty miles all around. Moon on the Hill is also a fitting name given that if Grace isn't scribbling on something she will be walking the fells.
