Five Years of Moon on the Hill

Five Years of Moon on the Hill

Hello, we are Moon on the Hill and here is a very brief history of our lovely little shop five years on.

Moon on the Hill is an independent gift shop on Angel Lane, Penrith, which is situated on the Northern Edge of the Lake District. It was establshed in November 2019 and is run by founder Grace Rigby who is also a textile designer.

Originally wanting a space where she could make and sell her own products, also with an idea to host printing courses. Moon on the Hill quickly blossomed into something much more after approaching a few local makers and artist to stock their products. After serving the community for five years and now established, it became clear that something had to go in order to create more space to sell beautiful things. Therefore the studio space was turned into a selling space. Which has also given Grace and her team somewhere to dance and sing - only joking but thay are a happy bunch!

Now working closely with local independent makers and other British talented designers and crafts people from further afield, the shop brings together a nicely curated collection of design led quality gifts and home wares - with the emphasis on beauty as well as being functional and original. This includes a nice range of cards, prints, jewellery and textiles.

Over the last five years Moon on the Hill have collaborated in events such as Fiver Fest and the Magic Tenner, organised by Totally Locally. They have also worked closely with designers and collaborated on work, in particular two Moon on the Hill inspired necklaces created by Natasha Tavangari of https://www.sorayajewellery.co.uk

'Moon on the Hill' is a reference to Great Dun Fell, which Grace once heard it described as although locally known as the Golf Ball and can be seen for forty miles all around. Why not pop in for a visit the next time you're in Penrith.
